Sliced Tendons and a Canceled Tour

We are writing to you as our van heads back to New York. Billy has already returned to New York via plane, and is preparing for surgery.During last night’s show at Schuba’s in Chicago Billy fell off the stage, landing on a broken pint glass. This happened during the triumphant finale of the set; the stage was crowded with people dancing and singing to ‘Cavalry’, while a strobe light turned their vision into a cut screen movie. His left hand has a gash on the palm, and a deep slice in his pinky finger which also cut tendons. We regrettably must announce that Schuba’s was the last night of the tour.We promise to make up each and every show as soon as possible and apologize to everyone who purchased tickets. Arrangements are being made with all of the clubs on how best to handle the situation. We will have more information soon.Webmaster note: you can send your best wishes to billy@pelamusic.com and I’ll forward them to him.

  2. Wow…Billy….Watching the You Tube video reminds me of when you severed your finger while shredding Styrofoam on an upside down bicycle wheel when you were 5 years old! I hope you are alright and I will miss visiting with you and the band in Los Angeles.

  4. […] Bad news for Pela: During last Saturday night’s show in Chicago, singer Billy McCarthy fell off stage during the “triumphant finale” at Shuba’s. Landing on a stray pint glass, he lacerated his hand and severed some some tendons in his left pinkie–the most underestimated finger necessary for rocking those sweet Pela jams. It looks like they have canceled all their upcoming shows up until their May 26th appearance at Sasquatch. This also means they will not be doing an in-studio here at KEXP on March 4 as planned. Get better soon, Billy! Send your condolences here. […]

  5. Sorry to hear about the accident Billy. Hope you have a quick and full recovery. Sad I’ll be missing your guys’ show in Philly as I was flying in from New Hampshire after the snowstorm kept me from the TT the Bears show. All the best Billy. Come back strong.
